What does insulating a whole house in Wichita Falls involve?
Home insulation in Wichita Falls means adding insulation to your attic, the floors over the crawl space and the rim where the house sits on the foundation, and sealing the air leaks in between, so the heating and cooling you pay for stays inside the house.
Most calls start with a room over the garage that never cools off, floors that feel cold all winter, or an older house you just bought with no idea what's up in the attic, and sometimes attic insulation alone is the answer. The price moves with how much of the house needs work, which material fits each spot and what has to be fixed before anything new goes in, and the schedule turns on those same repairs plus whether the city wants a permit. After I've seen the house, I write up what I found and what I'd do in plain words, so you're deciding from your own house and not a guess.
How do you know your house needs more insulation?
Rooms that won't stay comfortable
One bedroom runs hot all summer, or the room over the garage never catches up with the rest of the house, and that usually means thin insulation, open gaps or both. The longer it goes, the harder your system runs to keep up, and you pay for every hour of it.
Cold floors and drafts
If the floors feel cold underfoot or you can feel air moving near the baseboards, the crawl space underneath is often bare or open to the outside. Left alone, that draft keeps pulling outside air through your house every single day.
Flattened or stained attic insulation
If you pop your head through the hatch and see insulation packed down, stained or full of droppings, it's stopped doing much and it may be hiding a leak. Laying new material on top just buries the problem, and a slow roof leak can rot the framing while nobody's looking.
How we handle home insulation, start to finish
When you want the whole house done, I go through the attic, floors and crawl space with you and lay out what needs fixing now and what can wait, because your money should go where it counts. We take care of the repairs first, since new insulation over a leak or a bad wire just hides it. Then we air seal, closing up the gaps around pipes, wires and the attic hatch, so the insulation isn't fighting a draft. We also check your ceiling can lights before we start, because insulation has to stay back from older lights that aren't rated to touch it. Last, we add the insulation, keeping it full out to the edges and clear of the eave vents so the attic can still breathe.
If the old insulation is soaked, moldy or full of droppings, insulation removal comes first so the mess leaves the house instead of staying under the new stuff. And when cold floors are the main complaint, crawl space insulation under the floor usually does more good than piling more into the attic.
Air sealing plus blown-in
This suits most attics where the ductwork isn't up there, because sealing the gaps and topping up blown-in, which is loose fill blown through a hose, does the job for less than foam. It's where I start for most houses.
Spray foam where the ducts live
Foam costs more, but it seals air while it insulates, and that's worth paying for when your ductwork runs through the attic. If the ducts aren't up there, I'll usually steer you back to sealing and loose fill.
Walls in an older house
Drill and fill is a common way to insulate empty wall cavities in older houses, with small holes drilled, insulation blown in and the holes sealed back up. If you're already planning new siding, that's the better time to add insulation on the outside of the walls.

(940) 298-1123What shapes home insulation work in Wichita Falls
Wichita Falls Building Inspections says construction work in the city has to follow city codes and carry the right permits and licenses, and whether your insulation job needs a permit is the city's call, so we check with them before we start. If it does, we handle the paperwork and the inspections for you, and you're welcome to ask the city whether a contractor is registered with them before you hire anyone. The state also sets an energy standard for building one- and two-family houses of three stories or fewer, and cities can adopt their own changes to it, which is one more reason we ask the city first.
We're based in Wichita Falls, and a lot of what we find here is older houses with a few inches of packed-down insulation, an unsealed hatch and wiring nobody's looked at in years. We see the same mix on jobs in Burkburnett and Iowa Park, and we handle them the same way, fixes and sealing before any new insulation.

Frequently asked questions
How much does attic insulation cost in Wichita Falls?
Attic insulation across the US usually costs about $1,700 to $2,500 per job, and that's a national figure, not a Wichita Falls quote. Your own job turns on the size of the attic, the material and whether old insulation or repairs have to come first. After I look it over, I'll write up what I found and what I'd do for your house.
Is blown-in or batt insulation better for my attic?
For most attics, blown-in is the better pick, because loose fill usually costs less than batts and covers better around framing and wires. Installed costs still vary from house to house, so if you're comparing attic quotes, expect blown-in to come in lower but check what each one includes.
What should be fixed before insulating an attic?
Wet insulation, moldy or rotted rafters, fans or vents blowing into the attic instead of outside, and an attic with little or no ventilation all need fixing before new insulation goes in. Old wiring matters too, since knob and tube wiring, the old two-wire setup found in houses from before 1930, can be a fire hazard when insulation touches it.
Do I need a permit to insulate my house in Wichita Falls?
The city requires the right permits for construction work, and whether your insulation job needs one is something we check with the city before we start. If it does, we take care of the paperwork and the inspections, as I covered above.
Can I insulate my attic myself?
You can if the attic is easy to get into and move around in, and the usual do-it-yourself air sealing and insulation projects take a day or two. Where folks get into trouble is wet spots, old wiring and buried eave vents, so if any of those turn up, that's a good time to call us.
What causes one room to be hotter than the rest of the house?
Usually it's air leaking in or out around that room, thin insulation over it, or both, and the room over the garage is the classic case. I check the attic above that room, the walls it shares with the garage and the floor under it, because the fix is often in more than one spot.
